As the 2019 general elections draws closer, a chieftain of the all progressives congress in Bayelsa State, Barr. Festus Daumiebi Sunday has called on politicians in the state to desist from engaging in acts that will unnecessarily overheat the polity.
Barr. Festus made the call in response to a purported invitation of Darlon security services and its chairman, Hon. David Lyon by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly to appear before it on alleged security breach by security personnel attached to the said company.
While speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa, Barr. Festus condemned the move by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in its entirety, describing it as a rather unfortunate development.
He described Hon.David Lyon as a peaceful and peace loving man whose company is currently catering for over five thousand families across the state at a time the state government is even retrenching genuinely employed workers without any cogent reason.
He referred the state House of Assembly to Section 251 of the 1999 constitution as amended, stating that the House lacks the jurisdiction to invite either the company, its chairman or any of its staff.
Barr. Festus Daumiebi expressed deep disappointment over the development and advised the government of Bayelsa State to concern itself on how to improve the depressing living standards of Bayelsans for the past seven years instead of descipating its energy on how to pull-down the only indegeneous company that is catering for over five thousand families across the state, when the state government has not been able to create a single job for the past seven years.
Barrister Festus finally admonished the state House of Assembly to investigate the killings of the defenceless Indigenes of Amassoma in Southern Ijaw local government area ; instead of making frivolous efforts to link an innocent man to a communal crises that occurred at Korokorosei in Southern Ijaw local Government Area.
