CHRONICLES OF DICKSON'S HATRED FOR SOUTHERN IJAW PEOPLE

with 0 Comment
In 2005, D.S.P Alamieyeseigha, the first civilian governor of Bayelsa state was caught in a web of power play, with some desperate politicians joining forces to oust him from office. In the series of intrigues that ensued in the power play of ousting D.S.P Alamieyesiegha, protests were sponsored against him and one of the key actors in that power play is none other than Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson.

Dickson played an ignoble role in the tragedy that befell D.S.P Alamieyesiegha. Dickson did not only purchase a coffin that was used to mock Alamco, signifying his death, he also doctored the document that was used in the impeachment of D.S.P Alamieyesiegha. His reward for his treacherous role? Commissioner of Justice, a position he used in pilfering N150 million meant for the law library.

In 2015, in the heat of the governorship election, Gov. Dickson turned Southern Ijaw into a war zone. In his desperate bid to clinch the governorship seat of the state, he imported armed militants into Southern Ijaw, where electorates were subjected to a harrowing experience of heavy gun attacks. Bayelsans were maimed by a vicious man that is saddled with the responsibility of protecting them.

Chief Remember Ogbe, the Chairman of Southern Ijaw L.G.A during the 2015 election, was summoned to government house by Dickson. Upon his arrival, he was severely beaten up by an enraged Dickson, on the account that the election was not going his (Dickson’s) way, after the huge money he has released to ensure his victory. You can imagine the humiliation meted out to Mr Ogbe, who had to seek medical help in Warri, Delta state.

In his typical way of acting like a bull in a China shop towards the legacies of his predecessors, Dickson has set in motion a strategy of destroying whatever legacies his predecessors left behind. One of the cherished legacies left behind by Chief D.S.P Alamieyesiegha, is the Niger Delta University, situated in Wilberforce Island, Amassoma. During the era of Dickson's immediate predecessor, the university had all its courses accredited. When Dickson came, he deliberately neglected NDU, starving NDU of funds, and the state’s ivory tower lost most of its accredited programme.

As part of Dickson's machinations to kill NDU in order to promote the African University, allegedly owned by Dickson and some of His cronies in the state's house of Assembly,  he engineered a crisis in NDU. Meanwhile, the African University is located in Toru Orua, Dickson's home town, and built with state resources.

In the guise of a reform that is clearly targeted at perceived or imaginary enemies, Dickson moved some NDU workers to his African University, in Toru Orua. He followed this up with a mass sack of Southern Ijaw indigenes, on the payroll of NDU. When this sinister move of Dickson was protested against, he unleashed his full wrath on the people of Amassoma, brutalizing and killing them. About nine persons were killed by Dickson's killing machine, leaving a trail of grief and sorrow behind in Amassoma.

Dickson's insatiable hatred for Southern Ijaw is at work once again. This time, he has launched an offensive against an indigene of Southern Ijaw, a man who has being a blessing not just to Southern Ijaw indigenes but to Bayelsa as a whole. A man whose company has about 5000 Bayelsans working in his company, a great philanthropist that has touched a lot of lives.

Think of it for a minute, why would Gov. Dickson be hell bent on stripping Hon. David Lyon of a security contract awarded to his company, Darlon Security & Guards Nig  Ltd by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, preferring rather that the said contract be awarded to one Rtd. Major Lancelot Anyaya, a Rivers state man? It simply an expression of his established hatred for Southern Ijaw people.

What is the sin of Southern Ijaw people, that Gov. Dickson has chosen to be so mean-hearted towards them? Every well meaning Southern Ijaw indigene should stand up and resist Dickson's unwarranted assault on Southern Ijaw indigenes. It was D.S.P Alamieyesiegha yesterday, today it is Hon. David Lyon, who knows what next Dickson would unleash on Southern Ijaw people tomorrow.
